About Me

Professor Lee received his Ph.D. from The University of Chicago, 1997. His field of interest is the Politics of Race and Ethnicity. His current research interests are racial politics, public opinion, political behavior, social movements, Asian American politics, survey research methods, and health care and social welfare politics. His recently published book, Mobilizing Public Opinion: Black Insurgency and Racial Attitudes in the Civil Rights Era (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2002), examines the activation of racial attitudes and takes critical aim at elite-driven and survey-based opinion research. Lee has also written on the role of identity, language, information, trust, stereotypes, and discrimination in shaping policy preferences, racial attitudes, and interracial interactions. He is currently synthesizing these works into a book-length manuscript on Asian Americans, Latinos, and the future of race relations and racial politics in the U.S.
